Description
Français : Monument du sculpteur Antonin Mercié dont la construction est votée par le conseil municipal de Saint-Dié (Vosges) en 1893, à la suite de la mort de l'homme d'État, et qui est inauguré trois ans plus tard, à côté de l'hôtel de ville.

Une statue en bronze de Jules Ferry est installée sur le piédestal, avec Marianne, allégorie de la République, un enfant annamite symbolisant l'œuvre coloniale de Ferry, ainsi qu'un écolier évoquant les lois scolaires des années 1880.

Plusieurs inscriptions sont visibles :

  • à l’avant : « JULES FERRY (1832-1893) » ;
  • à droite : « INSTRUCTION POPULAIRE » ;
  • à gauche : « EXPANSION COLONIALE » ;
  • au dos : « SOUSCRIPTION NATIONALE ».
