DescriptionDon R. (West Don R.), looking north across Yonge St. bridge (30040304340).jpg
Sixty-two years ago this Saturday, on October 15, 1954, Hurricane Hazel swept through this part of Ontario, ripping homes from their foundations, sundering bridges and roadways, and killing 81 people in Ontario, mostly in Toronto. The deadliest Hurricane of its season, it killed 400 people in Haiti and devastated their economy. To give you some idea of its magnitude, this photo was taken looking north across the Yonge St. bridge over the Don River, near York Mills.
