¡Viva! is an album by English singer/songwriter Tiff Lacey, released on August 15, 2011. It is her first full-length solo album and her second overall. It includes her well-known single "Take Me Away".
[edit] Album information
Tiff Lacey began talking about an eventual solo effort during interviews in 2008. First songs for it were recorded in early 2009. The single "Someone Like You" was said to be the lead single from the album. By the end of that year she said the record will be released during summer 2010 and the second single from it will be a remix package of her already known song "Take Me Away", written with Tom Kent. However, in the summer of 2010 she said the album is postponed for 2011 for several reasons, one of them being recording brand new songs for it. She signed Loverush Digital in the spring of 2010 and it was reported that her album will be released through that label and the first single will be the above mentioned "Take Me Away". The single was released in March 2011 on iTunes. A video for another song from the album, "Mother To Daughter", was revealed later by the singer. Another two songs were revealed for promotion - "Better Than Before" and "Wilderness". "¡Viva!" came out on August 15, 2011, three days after its launch party which was held in "That Club", London, UK. The final cut of the album contains 15 original tracks plus a few club remixes by George Popa a.k.a. Tbass. It's available in two formats - a standard digital edition featuring 18 tracks and a Limited Edition double CD - Disc One including the 15 album tracks and Disc Two including 6 remixes.
[edit] Producers
All the lyrics in the album, except "La Habanera", are written by Tiff Lacey. The music is mainly composed, produced and mastered by George Popa. There are also a few long-time collaborators of the singer who also provided tracks for "¡Viva!". The tracks "Falling At Your Feet" and "Play Pretend" with Nick Murray were a last minute addition to the tracklist, replacing two other tunes that fell out from the final cut. Loverush Digital's executive Mark Loverush and his partner Kinky Roland a.k.a. Loverush UK! produced "Wilderness". Matt Bukovski, another Tiff Lacey collaborator in the trance genre, produced the ballad "Speak Your Name" and Lacey's rendition of Bizet's "La Habanera", which was introduced as the album's main surprise. Ilan Bluestone produced "Better Than Before" and Lacey's friend Paul Stevens co-wrote "Leap Of Faith".
[edit] Musical Style
"¡Viva!" features various music genres, the Pop ballads being the main element, which is a departure from Tiff Lacey's usual sound. The title track, sung in Spanish, is the first Cha-cha-cha song ever performed by the singer. "La Habanera" on its side combines opera with Trance breaks. It's sung in French and shows Tiff Lacey doing some classical singing. The only 3 original tracks that are reminiscent of Lacey's trademark music style are the two Dance tracks "Falling At Your Feet" and "Play Pretend" and the Progressive house track "Better Than Before".
