In Uruguay the telephone numbers use eight-digit local phone numbers, without area code. Public utility services use three to four-digit phone numbers.
Their current telephone numbering plan was implemented in August 2010 by URSEC and it increased all geographic numbers to eight digits [1].

In the new telephone numbering plan, all geographical numbers have eight digits. The change added the area code to the local number or addedd 4 plus area code to the local number[2]:
