17601 Sheldonschafer (provisional designation: 1995 SS) is an inner main-belt minor planet. It was discovered by Timothy B. Spahr through the Catalina Sky Survey on September 19, 1995. It is named after Sheldon Schafer, Vice President of the Lakeview Museum in Peoria, Illinois, director of the museum's planetarium since 1978, and a professor of astronomy at Bradley University.
