The 18+ Card is one of the valid forms of 'Proof of Age' in New Zealand and Australia. It is provided by the Hospitality Association of New Zealand (HANZ) and Australian State Governments for those persons over the age of 18 in order for them to prove they are legally able to purchase alcohol, tobacco products and anything else with an age limit.
The 18+ card is provided for those persons who do not have a valid driver license and may or may not have a valid passport. With a passport being a valuable document it is not advisable to use it as ID especially when under the influence of alcohol.
