  1. ^ Goals in all competitions (The Football League (including Football League play-offs or Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Football League Trophy, Anglo-Italian Cup, Charity Shield and European) are counted.
  2. ^ The 1939–40 season was abandoned in early September and all results annulled, after only three matches had been played; Leicester City were fifth in the table at the time.
