Arsenal F.C. finished in the top four in their first season under George Graham. This was an improvement on Arsenal's mediocre form of the last few seasons, but was bittersweet as Arsenal had spent a large part of the season at the top of the table before a run of ten matches without a win ended any title hopes Arsenal entertained. The league form was balanced with a trophy to celebrate Graham's first season in charge, with the side winning the League Cup against Liverpool, thanks to a brace from Charlie Nicholas.
