The match for the second Johan Cruijff-schaal was held on 17 August 1997 in the Amsterdam ArenA in Amsterdam. The match featured the winners of the 1996-97 Dutch first division, PSV, and the winners of the 1996-97 KNVB Cup, Roda JC. The match ended in a 3-1 victory for PSV, with goals from Philip Cocu (2) and Gilles De Bilde for PSV and Peter van Houdt for Roda JC. PSV won the Johan Cruijff-schaal for the second time in a row.
