The 2002–03 season saw Dynamo Dresden return to the Regionalliga, now the Regionalliga Nord after the restructuring in 2000. They started the season well, and were in contention for promotion at the halfway point, before eventually slipping to seventh place. As with the previous season, they had a solid defence, only conceding 34 goals but were only able to score the same number.

Dynamo won the Saxony Cup for the first time, ensuring qualification for next season's DFB-Pokal.
