The 2005–06 season was the 103rd in the history of the Southern League, which is an English football competition featuring semi-professional and amateur clubs from the South West, South Central and Midlands of England and South Wales.

Premier Division[edit]

The Premier Division consisted of 22 clubs, including 16 clubs from last season, and six new clubs. Three clubs were transferred from the Isthmian League Premier Division:

† Enfield Town, Wivenhoe Town and Barking & East Ham United were transferred to the Isthmian League Division One North after their play-off defeats. However, before the 2006–07 season started, Barking & East Ham United resigned from the league and folded. A new club, Barking, was formed and admitted into the Essex Senior Football League. Rothwell Town, Barton Rovers and Berkhamsted Town were admitted into the new Division One Midlands for the 2006–07 season, while Uxbridge joined the Division One South & West.

Division One West[edit]

Division One West consisted of 22 clubs, including 15 clubs from last season, and seven new clubs:

Clevedon Town won the title and were promoted to the Premier Division along with play-off winners Hemel Hempstead Town, returning after relegation in 2004. Runners-up Ashford Town were promoted and transferred to the Isthmian League Premier Division. Thame United finished bottom and were the only Division One team relegated at the end of the season. Remaining teams were divided between the newly formed Division One Midlands and Division One South & West.

† After their play-off defeats Brackley Town were admitted into Division One Midlands, while Swindon Supermarine and Marlow were admitted into Division One South & West. Of the other clubs, Sutton Coldfield Town, Leighton Town, Willenhall Town, Rushall Olympic, Bromsgrove Rovers, Solihull Borough, Cinderford Town, Bedworth United, Stourport Swifts and Dunstable Town all joined Division One Midlands. Beaconsfield SYCOB, Burnham, Paulton Rovers, Taunton Town and Bracknell Town joined Division One South & West.
