Roster[edit]

The National Hockey League rules allow teams to have 20-23 players on a team's roster at any given time (a minimum of 18 skaters and two goaltenders), excluding any players the team has placed on the injured reserve list (IR).[15] The Islanders currently have four players on injured reserve, Eric Boulton, Matt Carkner, Kyle Okposo, and Lubomir Visnovsky, and an active roster of 22 players: 2 goaltenders, 7 defenseman, and 13 forwards. The roster (including IR) consists of 12 players picked by the Islanders during a draft, including team captain John Tavares and both assistant captains Kyle Okposo and Frans Neilsen; Tavares has served as team captain since 2013, while Okposo has served his role since 2011 and Nielsen since 2014.[16][17][18]
