The 2014 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A is the 57th season of the Série A, the top-level of professional football in Brazil. Cruzeiro come in as the defending champions having won the title in the 2013 season. The matches will have a break during the 2014 FIFA World Cup which will be held between June and July in Brazil. The competition will have played nine rounds before the stoppage.[1]

Format[edit]

For the eleventh consecutive season, the tournament will be played in a double round-robin system. The team with most number of points at the end of the season will be declared champion. The bottom four teams will be relegated and will play in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B in the 2015 season.

International qualification[edit]

The Série A will serve as a qualifier to CONMEBOL's 2015 Copa Libertadores. The top-three teams in the standings will qualify to the Second Stage of the competition, while the fourth place in the standings will qualify to the First Stage.
