2020Health is an independent, social enterprise think tank think tank based in London which works to improve health and make health personal through research, evaluation, campaigning and relationships. 2020health.org was formed at the end of 2006 by Julia Manning with the support of health professionals and stakeholders in healthcare. Right from the start the aim was to enable ‘the grassroots’ to develop and influence policy based on their knowledge and expertise. Capturing front line experience as a primary source of ideas remains the core means by which we aim improve healthcare in the UK. 2020health research publications have covered alcohol, telehealth, employment, the economy, pricing of medicines, biotechology, NHS reform and fraud.
All the work of 2020health is enabled by unrestricted educational grants either in the form of membership of 2020health or sponsorship of specific projects.
Chief Executive, Julia Manning, studied visual science at City University and became a member of the College of Optometrists in 1991. Her career has included being a visiting lecturer at City University, visiting clinician at the Royal Free Hospital, working with Primary Care Trusts and a Director of the UK Institute of Optometry. She also specialised in diabetes and founded Julia Manning Eyecare, a practice for people with mental and physical disabilities. In 2005 she was a candidate in the general election in a seat she was guaranteed not to win. Julia is a regular commentator in the media.
2020health have signed the Mindful Employer Charter, and are committed to working towards putting the Charter’s principles in place and supporting the mental wellbeing of their staff. 2020health is a member of Social Enterprise UK. Social enterprises are businesses that trade to tackle social problems, improve communities, people’s life chances, or the environment. 2020health is proud to support the Caring Economy Campaign run by the Centre for Partnership Studies. The mission of CPS’ Caring Economy Campaign (CEC) is to shift economic measurements, policies, and practices from the current focus on GDP and Wall Street to a humane and prosperous economy that recognizes the enormous return on investment in the most important, yet undervalued, human work: the work of caring for and educating people, starting in early childhood. 2020health are members of the mHealth Alliance, a group who champion the use of mobile technologies to improve health throughout the world.
