2297 Daghestan (1978 RE) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on September 1, 1978, by N. S. Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. It is aptly named after the Dagestan ASSR, the regional government of Dagestan during the former Soviet Union.
