29th Chapter

The 29th Chapter are a hip hop group formed in west London, England, in 2000. They comprise of vocalist and producer D.P, vocalists Mr Prince, McGladius, and Navigator. After a number of independent releases between 2000-2004 The 29th Chapter finally released their first signed album entitled ‘Underdogz’ with Indie label Fierce! Records in 2004. However, it was not until 2009, now operating as a full time touring band, that they released their most recent and critically acclaimed album 'Louder'. It was this recording that marked The 29th Chapter as an exciting new act emerging in the U.K music scene. In early 2010 having released their first mainstream Single 'Invincible' the 29th Chapter celebrated a chart position 6 in the Music Week Breakers Chart published the week of 1 March, and also a chart position of 26 on the BBC Indie Singles Chart published the same week. ‘Invincible’ was co-produced by Hanif Williams, Kobalt Publishing with TwoNine records and was accompanied by a music video shot by pioneering creative duo: Doodledo Motion.

History

Early career

The 29th Chapter met each other through a number of music festivals between 1997- 1999. Mr.Prince and Navigator both hailing from West London were operating at this point as a hip-hop duo performing at various music festivals and open mics. After meeting D.P from Birmingham, England, in the summer of 1997 he began to produce beats for the duo and feature on a number of their tracks. It was not until 1999 that Mr Prince and Navigator spotted McGladius break-dance battling in a skate-park and struck up an instant friendship. McGladius who then lived in Bangor, Northern Ireland soon moved to London to study drama and began spending more time with the rest of the group. In 2000 all four members began writing music together, performing and touring. Between working jobs and studying the group performed gigs on the weekends and used their summers to tour various music festivals up and down the country. In 2004 they took the step of quitting their jobs and pursuing their music career full time. As well as producing music and touring extensively, the four friends set-up a small charity called NuSkool. Between gigs and recording they performed in high school assemblies and ran urban arts workshops, teaching break-dance, music production and lyric writing. Their work was predominately with teenagers at risk of exclusion.

Underdogz 2004

The debut album by The 29th Chapter, 'Underdogz' was released on April 2004 on Fierce! Records. It was this recording that bolstered The 29th Chapter's early fanbase and shifted 5.000 units. It featured title track 'Underdogz' with its iconic hook which was a hit with high school students up and down the country.

Louder 2009

Released on June 2009 “Louder” was the clearest indication of The29th Chapter's mainstream potential. Underlined right from the get-go in opening track “Radio” where they confidently assert that they will be heard and you will love it. Each track effortlessly reveals another unique dimension to the group’s depth and versatility. One moment they are kicking against the status quo and stirring the waters of revolution in tracks 'Get Strong', 'Fall Back' and 'Louder'. The next they are musing about life and love, through their own unique brand of wit and wordplay in tracks , 'So Good' and 'Man Up'. The live performance of the album at London's iconic Jazz Café, where they were accompanied by a live band was perhaps the bands most significant and praised live gig to date.

Invincible 2010

Invincible is the first of three singles from their forthcoming album due out end 2010. Fusing 29’s gritty yet quirky hip-hop style with a fresh electro-synth sound and an infectious feel good hook Invincible is the guaranteed dance floor filler for 2010. The single pays homage to the current fresh urban pop sound coming out of the UK coined by artists such as Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder. Co-produced by Hanif Williams of Kobolt Music with a breathtaking big beat and funky house remixes from newcomer Jimmy James productions and club track veterans LoverushUK! ("5 Reasons", "Fountains Of Youth", remix of Aviv Geffen's "It's Alright"). The single is supported by an outstanding comic book style music video by acclaimed Manchester production company Doodledo Motion (credits: Channel 5, Gold, Tiger Aspect, BBC).Invincible charted at number 6 in the Music Week Breakers Chart published the week of 1 March, and also at number 26 on the BBC Indie Singles Chart published on the same week.
