The 49th Wisconsin was organized at Milwaukee, Wisconsin and mustered into Federal service between December 24, 1864 and March 5, 1865.
The regiment was mustered out on November 8, 1865.

The 49th Wisconsin suffered 54 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 54 fatalities.[1]
