Așchileu (Hungarian: Esküllő; German: Gross-Schwalbendorf) is a commune in Cluj County, Romania. It is composed of five villages: Așchileu Mare (the commune center; Nagyesküllő), Așchileu Mic (Kisesküllő), Cristorel (Ördögkeresztúr), Dorna (Dorna) and Fodora (Magyarfodorháza).
Așchileu it is known from an old chronicle (Gesta Hungarorum) written by an anonymous individual. It was there that local Romanians met the invading Magyars led by Tuhutum after a fierce battle. Romanians and the invading Hungarians battled at the Căpuș River; the Romanians were defeated and dux Gelou was killed. Romanians agreed to have Tuhutum as their leader and the duchy was independent until the times of king Stephen I. According to the chronicle, a grandson of Tuhutum was the mother of king Stephen I. The same chronicle stated that until Stephen I, all members of Tuhutum family were pagans.
According to the 2002 census, Romanians made up 83.7% of the population, Hungarians made up 10.86% and Roma made up 5.43%.
