The Audit Bureau of Circulations (UK) is known as "ABC". It was founded on 14 October 1931, initially by ISBA (Society of British Advertisers) to provide an independent verification of circulation/data figures to facilitate the buying and selling of advertising space within UK National newspapers. Due to the phenomenal success, the (IPA), PPA, NS and NPA (Newspaper Publishers' Association) became involved and ABC has developed into the organisation it is today, providing independent verification of data for print, lists/databases and exhibitions in the UK and Ireland.
On the 21 March 2011 ABC and ABCe united under one brand putting digital and innovation at the heart of the organisation. Print remains the bedrock of ABC, digital activity currently accounts for 30 per cent of ABC’s revenue. This is predicted to continue to grow significantly, making this move a natural progression in the evolution of the organisation.
ABC is a not for profit organisation governed by a board of permanent and elected representatives from advertisers, advertising agencies, media owners and their representative trade bodies. It is a leading member of the International Federation of ABCs.
In February 2014, Jerry Wright, chief executive of ABC announced that the organisation would begin combining print and digital figures for magazines.
ABCe was established in 1996 by Richard Foan as the new media arm of ABC. It grew to 30% of ABC Group revenue and is now integrated into ABC Group.
