From 1936 until 1956 the Academy Award had a category "Best Short Subject, Two-reel" (best live action short film that consists of 2 reels). This is a list of short films that were nominated for an Oscar in this category. The winning films are listed first, with those only nominated following.

There was also a category "Best Short Subject, One-reel". In 1936 and 37 there was the additional category "Best Short Subject, Color". The present equivalent is "Best Short Film, Live Action".
