[edit] History
AeroGal was established in 1986.
Through a commercial agreement between AeroGal and Synergy Group (Avianca, OceanAir, VIP) the airline will receive new airplanes that will allow the start of new destinations. International destinations as Los Angeles, Milan, Madrid, Lima and Panama are being considered.
The agreement includes code sharing on national routes between AeroGal and VIP (Lago Agrio, Francisco de Orellana, Manta and Portoviejo).
[edit] Merger with Avianca and TACA
In October 2009, AeroGal announced its merger with the Colombian airline Avianca, and the Salvadoran airline TACA.[2] AeroGal will continue to operate under their own brand but shares its assets with the other airlines.
Avianca currently owns the majority of the airline with more than 81% acquired, which forced Avianca to make a large investment of U.S. $ 7.2 million to strengthen and modernize the company. Despite the purchase by Avianca, AeroGal will continue using its separate identity and will continue to operate in Ecuador.

[edit] Accidents and incidents
- On September 19, 2010, AeroGal flight 700, a Boeing 767, was involved in a near-miss incident at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The incident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Initial reports indicate that the AeroGal flight was cleared to land on runway 13L, but instead attempted to land on runway 13R. Runway 13R was in-use by a JetBlue aircraft who had been cleared for takeoff. The error was spotted by a Delta crew in line for takeoff, who relayed the information to the tower. The air traffic controller issued an order for the AeroGal jet to turn immediately and was able to prevent the collision.
