Aggreko plc is the world's largest temporary power generation company,[2] and a major supplier of temperature control equipment. It is headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.
At the end of 2009, it had a fleet of 13,000 generators ranging in size from 10 kW to 2MW, which in aggregate amounted to over 5,900MW of generating capacity, the equivalent of about 10% of peak power demand on the National Grid.[3] It has 144 service centres in 34 countries and customers in over 100 countries.[3]
It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.

Aggreko was founded in the Netherlands in 1962.[4] It moved to Scotland in 1973 and was acquired by Christian Salvesen plc in 1984.[4] It was demerged from Christian Salvesen and first listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1997.[4]
The company acquired substantially all the activities (other than those relating to large gas turbines) of General Electric Energy Rentals for total consideration of circa US$212m in 2006.[5] It became the exclusive supplier for temporary power and temperature controls for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in 2008[6] and the exclusive supplier for temporary power for the London 2012 Olympic Games in 2012.[7]
In 2012, Aggreko acquired 100% of the operations of Poit Energia, a leading segment in Latin America, thus becoming the largest company in the industry on the continent.[8]
Operations [edit]
Aggreko has offices in most major cities in Western Europe, the United States and Australia, and smaller numbers of locations in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. The items hired out include gas and diesel generators, load banks, heaters, air conditioners and chillers. Aggreko equipment is used in a wide variety of settings including film studios, power stations, mines, offshore oil platforms, shipyards, general construction and contracting industries, and high-demand power applications related to emergency response and disaster management. Aggreko's International Projects business operates out of Dubai from where they can ship powerplants - capable of powering entire cities - to anywhere in the world and have the powerplant operational within days of reaching the destination.[9]
