Aika Miura (三浦あいか Miura Aika) is a Japanese AV idol. She released an average of one film a month over a seven year period—excepting 1998—before she retired in 2002.[4]

Aika's birth name is Yuu Hasegawa (長谷川優 Hasegawa Yuu).[1] She was born to a conservative family in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan on November 2, 1975.[5] Though her family did not approve of her working in the AV industry, they remained close to her throughout her career. When her father once scolded her for making money from pleasure, Miura pointed out that some of her performances involved bondage and S&M, and thought, "It's not as fun as you think!"[4]

Miura made her AV debut for the KUKI studio on their Tank label with the March 1995 release I Love You.[6] A later video, Summer Memory from September 1995, was in the popular but controversial exhibitionistic genre of Japanese adult video which would earn AV actress Asuka Yuki an arrest a decade later.[7]
In Costume Doll (October 1995), Miura entered the cosplay genre. Her December 1995 video, Fantasy, won an award from Video Boy magazine.[citation needed]

With Countdown, from February 1996, Miura announced the first of her temporary retirements, which would last only until May.[8] During this break, Kuki released Aika Miura Maniac (April 1996), a collection of never-before-seen scenes from previous videos.[9] In May 1996, Miura returned and adopted the single-name "AIKA", all in Roman-alphabet capitals, as her stage name.[3][10] The June 1996 release, Poison, contained scenes of anal sex.[11] Her July 1996 video for Kuki, 1000 Carat, had her playing a more serious role in an erotic drama.[12] AIKA Freak, released the following month, once again included scenes of outdoor group sex.[13]
In October 1996, Miura appeared in the 26th entry in the Atlas label's popular and long-running NEO Bloody Uniform series of cosplay-themed videos.[14] At Atlas21, Miura made a three-year career retrospective video entitled Legend Of An AV Idol.[15]
Alice Japan's Inhumanity (December 1997), had Miura in the role of a newlywed bride who suffers from amnesia after being hit by a car. Nine different men claim to be her husband, and she must perform fellatio on each one to find out who the real groom is. They all turn out to be imposters when the real husband shows up and the video concludes with Miura engaging in sex with him.[16] With The Last Video -Aika Miura-, made for the Atlas21 studio, the actress again took a break from appearing in AVs. Though she would continue pursuing her career as a stripper, this vacation from the AV industry would last from January until November 1998.[17]
[edit] Final come-back and retirement
Though she had repeatedly retired and come back, after five years Miura still had a strong following. In 2000 Kuki released several DVD collections of her previous videos for her fan-base.[18] In 2001, six years after her debut, she starred in the theatrically released, widescreen film Aika Miura - Streetcar Ecstasy (三浦あいか 痴漢電車エクスタシー).[19] Miura retired from AVs the following year. Even in retirement, Miura remained popular enough to warrant further DVD compilation releases,[20] and five years after her final retirement a semi-documentary video featuring scenes from throughout her career, was released in May 2007.[21]
