History[edit]

The city was called Albulae during the Roman empire. It was founded in 119 AD. Albulae was destroyed by an earthquake (and an ensuing fire) in the seventh century.

It is closely associated with the neighbouring city of Oran. Aïn Témouchent (Arabic: عين تموشنت‎) is the capital of Aïn Témouchent Province, Algeria.
