Ajman University of Science and Technology was founded in 1988 as a non-conventional, for-profit private institution of higher education in the UAE and in the Arab world. In fact, His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman issued on 17-6-1988 the Emiri Decree establishing Ajman University College of Science and Technology (AUCST) which received its first intake of students on 15-9-1988. In accordance with the Ministry of Higher Education and Research decree No 54 of 1997, AUCST became Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST). Despite the fact that AUST is the second oldest university in the UAE it didn't accomplish what it younger peers (in the same country) accomplish. The Ajman University of Science and Technology is located on University Street in the Jarf district of Ajman, in close proximity to the Khalifa Hospital, Gulf Medical College, Ajman Immigration Department and Ajman Traffic Department. The 215 thousand square meter (2.3 million square feet) campus has sports facilities (football, basketball, track and field, swimming, gymnasium), bookshop, health unit, restaurants, and mosques. Its standard academic year comprises the fall (August) and spring (January) semesters, while it has one summer semester (June).
