Akiko Santo

Akiko Santo (山東 昭子 Santō Akiko, born May 11, 1942) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party, a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet (national legislature). A native of Tokyo and graduate of Bunka Gakuin, she was elected to the House of Councillors for the first time in 1974 after working as an actress and reporter. She was State Minister and Director General of Science and Technology Agency with 1990-91. She became Vice President of the House of Councillors in 2007.
