Informal parent teacher meeting is the way forward The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP for pre-kg to Std 5) and the Cambridge International Examinations schooling programs (CIE for Std 6 to 10) focus on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. These programmes develop the child's skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving and giving the learners excellent preparation for the next stage in their education. But this cannot be achieved by the partnership of the teachers and students alone. Parents, play an integral part in the holistic development of the child and shaping them to what they become. And the willingness of the parents to participate adds another dimension to the child's learning.
As an extension of this idea, for the willing parent, the parent teacher meetings gain vital importance to meet with your child’s teacher(s) and get involved with the child's "schooling". You also let your child know that you care about them that you are with them in their endeavours. But will a formal corporate 'many-to-one' meeting address the needs of your child and to what extent? We think otherwise. As is the practise of International Schools, we believe in keeping it informal.
Open Houses Organized at regular intervals, provide an opportunity for parents to sit down face to face and discuss everything from curriculum to issues that arise in the classroom.
Interactive forums held across schools in the city- help create a partnership which helps the school listen to and deal with parents' concerns; and for parents to learn more about International schooling and how to improve their child's education. These informal informational get-together are organized to serve as a meeting place school administrators and other parents and ask questions about life at AAIS and the IB PYP or the CIE and definitely are the way forward!
