Akzel is the pseudonym of André Soares, a Brazilian drum and bass producer and DJ from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is known for his solo releases and also for working and collaborating with Cybass, fellow Drum and bass producer from Rio de Janeiro. His earlier works fall under the neurofunk subgenre, which eventually evolved to the newborn techno-influenced genre called "Techno-DNB". His latest output is heavily influenced by the earlier Detroit techno style and most of his recent tracks have been made in collaboration with the Danish producer Pyro[disambiguation needed ] (Troels Knudsen). His late partnership with Pyro influenced the change on Akzel's production techniques and style.

Akzel is part of the first generation of artists from Brazil to release mp3 files instead of the traditional vinyl records with the support of international renowned labels and artists, mainly through mp3 selling websites like Beatport (US/UK) and Amp3lifier (Germany).

His debut release was made by Native Mind's label, Offline Recordings in 2004, followed by the first release on BrainJam Records, the drum'n'bass offshoot from the German techno producer Harald Klotzberg, Decomplex Audio techno record label, in 2005. In late 2008 one of his tracks, made in collaboration with fellow drum and bass artist Pyro, was signed to Venom Inc. Recordings.
