Alan Donohoe was the lead singer of English rock band The Rakes, whose debut album Capture/Release reached number 32 in the UK album chart. He has twice appeared in NME's annual Cool List. Donohoe married and lives in Brighton, and drives a Triumph car.
He is from London. Prior to joining the band, Donohoe worked in a hospital. He writes lyrics on his mobile phone, saving them in a folder named "My Lyrics".
The singer is now working on a new music project with friend and fellow musician Andy Knowles. [1]
Donohoe is a vegan and is a supporter of the animal rights group PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals). He once participated in a demonstration against the Running Of the Bulls in Pamplona, in which he stripped naked with hundred of other people to promote the "Running of the Nudes" a cruelty free alternative to the event.
In an interview, Alan said "My sister had some chickens and just watching them scrabbling in the earth made me realise they’re quite amazing individuals. They remind me of dinosaurs the way they move their heads... the idea of them being trapped in a prison is horrible".[2]
