Alberto García Aspe Mena (born May 11, 1967 in Mexico City) is a retired Mexican football midfielder. He is one of the all-time appearance leaders for the Mexican national team. He has also participated in 109 matches, scoring a total 21 goals. In addition, he has played in three World Cups (1994, 1998 and 2002).

Club career

García Aspe's club career that started in 1984 with UNAM Pumas, debuting in a 4–1 win against Puebla. García Aspe played for UNAM Pumas, Necaxa, Argentine club River Plate, América, and Puebla. García Aspe was rewarded 4 Championships at a professional level with UNAM Pumas (1991), Necaxa (1995, 1996 and 1997). Overall García Aspe played 518 games, scored 142 goals, and registered 51 assists in the Mexican First Division. His last appearance in the Mexican First Division was in a 5–2 loss to Morelia.

International career

García Aspe's international debut came on April 26, 1988, in an impressive 4–1 victory against Honduras. He has participated in 109 matches, scoring a total 21 goals. In addition, he played in three World Cups (1994, 1998 and 2002). García Aspe scored a goal in the 1994 World Cup against Bulgaria and in the 1998 World Cup against Belgium, both coming in penalty kicks. In the 2002 FIFA World Cup, García Aspe only appeared in one game, playing twelve minutes in the round of 16 match against the United States.

Post career

Alberto García-Aspe is currently a commentator with Televisa; and also participates annually in the Mexican-fundraiser Teletón.
