Alejandro Jara

Alejandro Jara (born 1949 in Santiago, Chile) is the Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). He has served in this position since 2005.Before becoming Deputy Director-General, he served in various diplomatic and ministerial positions for the Chilean government and was Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the WTO from 2000 to 2005. During his ambassadorship he was elected within the WTO as Chairman of the Committee on Trade and Environment (2001) and Chairman of the Special Session of the Council for Trade in Services (2002).[1]
