José Alejandro Suárez Martín, aka Alexis (born March 6, 1974 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands), is a Spanish footballer who plays mainly as an aggressive central defender. He is currently unattached.
[edit] Football career
Alexis started playing professionally with hometown UD Las Palmas, by then in Segunda División B. Subsequently, he joined neighbours CD Tenerife, making his first division debuts in 1995–96, as the chicharreros finished fifth.
After Tenerife's second relegation in four years, in 2001–02, Alexis played a further season with the side before joining Levante UD, being instrumental in the Valencia outfit's 2004 promotion.
After another promotion and relegation with Levante, Alexis scored a rare goal in 2006–07, on September 17, 2006, in a 1-0 success at Recreativo de Huelva, as he was an undisputed starter.
In 2007, he joined Real Valladolid, appearing sparingly throughout the season and being released in October of the following year despite still having a contract running, alongside teammate Daniel Cifuentes, in the same predicament.[1]
