Alfred Edward John Rawlinson was the second Bishop of Derby[1] from 1935[2] until 1959.[3]

Born on 17 July 1884 and educated at Dulwich College [4] and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, he was ordained in 1910.[5] His career began as a tutor at Keble College, Oxford. Further academic posts at Christ Church, Oxford and his old college followed until 1929 when he was appointed a Canon Residentiary at Durham Cathedral and Archdeacon of Auckland.[6]
An eminent scholar,[7] he died on 17 July 1960.[8]
