The 1956 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was played from May to October, 1956. Galway, led by the legendary Seán Purcell and Frank Stockwell in attack, played beautiful attacking football against Cork in the final. The final score, 2-13 to 3-07, showed how free-flowing the game was, given that Gaelic Football matches were played for 60 minutes instead of 70 minutes in the present day. Stockwell finished with a total of 2-05, showing how great "The Terrible Twins" that were Purcell & Stockwell were in that era.
