Allen P. L. Martin is the president and founder of Al Martin Training Services,(AMTS, Inc.), established in 1995. Born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Detroit, he was a founder of Take Back Our City (TBOC), a Detroit-based initiative to reduce gang violence and homicides, and has worked as Substance Prevention Coordinator for the Detroit Health Department, Violence Prevention Coordinator, president of BDC Management in Houston.

Martin was a candidate for the Detroit City Council. In addition, he successfully passed smoke-free environmental legislation in Detroit and Wayne County. Martin Co-authored the State of Michigan’s model for its comprehensive seat belt law, now known as "Click-it or Ticket".

Martin is affiliated with Dunamis Outreach Ministries Worldwide International, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., NFBPA (National Forum for Black Public Administrators), Eastern Michigan Black Alumni Association, Detroit Public Schools Drug Free and Community Advisory Committee and the Michigan Association of Youth Serving Agencies.

He was awarded Community Man of the Year, a U.S. Congressional Testimonial, CABAAT's activist of the year and the Spirit of Detroit Award. He was also nominated for the President’s Point of Light Award and the Michigan Community Activist of the Year. He has appeared as a guest on several local and national radio and television broadcasts including Dateline, 20/20, America’s Black Journal and the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
