In Australian Aboriginal mythology, Altjira is the sky god of the Arrernte. He was the central god of the Dreamtime (called Alchera by the Aranda) who created the Earth, then retired to the sky.[1]

In art, he is depicted as having an emu's feet. His wives and daughters have dog's feet.[2]

The Kuiper belt object 148780 Altjira is named for Altjira.[3]

He was described to many people as a kangaroo looking figure with emu feet, and had appeared to many people including Dungalyah, the spirit of Uluru, in a burrow near The Olgas.
