Amalgamated Studios were founded in 1935 in the Hertfordshire, UK town of Borehamwood. They were acquired in 1938 by J. Arthur Rank, who wished to consolidate his holdings elsewhere.
After World War II, the studios were sold on to MGM-British who used them as a base of operations until 1970.
The studio site, between Shenley Road and Elstree Way, was cleared in the early 1970s as part of a civic expansion scheme by the local municipality and now holds a library and leisure complex, amongst other structures.
