American Council on Exercise

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) is a nonprofit fitness certification and education provider, although it is not an official government agency.[1]

Established in 1985, ACE now operates as a full-service entity with a staff of more than 40. According to its mission statement the primary function of the organization is to: "enrich quality of life through safe and effective physical activity."

The organization sets certification and education standards for fitness professionals and has certified more than 200,000 fitness professionals in the United States and 77 other countries since its inception.

The American Council on Exercise is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies for certification of the following:[2]

  • Advanced Health and Fitness Specialist
  • Group Fitness Instructor
  • Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant
  • Personal Fitness Trainer
