Amrita Island

Amrita Island is a small inhabited island in Squeteague Harbor in the village of Catumet in the town of Bourne, Massachusetts. Several residential homes are located on the island. Baxendale Road is the only road and it connects the island to the mainland from Megansett Road.

Apart from the stone bridge that connects the island to the mainland, the "Love is Eternal" tomb at the end of the island is one of the most beautiful island features. That name comes from the words over the door to the mausoleum built into the hill near the water in front of the house. The tomb contains the original owners of the house, and some of their pets. Their beloved horse is also buried under the heart fountain at the house at the end of the island. The island has always been a safe heaven for animals, declared Safe from Snares. At one point, Harvard owned the island and used it as a speaking retreat for professors and notable people.
