"Aníron" is a song in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy soundtrack. It is the theme for Aragorn (known later as Elessar) and Arwen Evenstar. Aníron means "I desire" in the constructed Elvish language of Sindarin. It is featured as part of the track "The Council of Elrond" on the soundtrack album The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. This song does not appear in Tolkien's writings; it was composed and sung by Enya, and the lyrics were written by Roma Ryan.[1] The song was conducted by Howard Shore and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Enya.

In November 2009 Enya released the album The Very Best of Enya. None of the songs on this recording are new, but the version of Aníron has alternate lyrics from the one heard in the movie or on any movie score recording.

Lyrics[edit]

Sindarin English Translation[2]

Verse 1

E môr henion i dhu:
Ely siriar, êl síla
Ai! Aníron Undómiel

From darkness I understand the night:
dreams flow, a star shines
Ah! I desire Evenstar

Verse 2

Tiro! El eria e môr
I 'lir en êl luitha 'uren
Ai! Aníron...

Look! A star rises out of the darkness
The song of the star enchants my heart
Ah! I desire...

Alternate lyrics from the The Very Best of Enya (2009) version of the song:[3]

Sindarin English Translation[4]

Verse 1

E môr henion i dhu:
Ely siriar, êl síla
Ai! Aníron Undómiel

From darkness I understand the night:
dreams flow, a star shines
Ah! I desire Evenstar

Verse 2

Tiriel arad 'ala môr
minnon i dhû-sad oltha
Ai! Aníron Edhelharn.

Having watched the day grow dark
I go into the night - a place to dream
Ah! I desire Elfstone.

Verse 3

Alae! Ir êl od elín!
I 'lir uin el luitha guren.
Ai! Aníron Undómiel.

Behold! The star of stars!
The song of the star enchants my heart.
Ah! I desire Evenstar

Verse 4

I lacha en naur e-chun
Síla, éria, brónia.
Ai! Aníron Edhelharn.

The flame of the fire of the heart
shines, rises, endures.
Ah! I desire Elfstone
