Ana Cristina Álvarez (born June 2, 1985) Ana Cristina, is an Cuban American singer-songwriter Ana was born in Miami, Florida, United States and is of Cuban descent and of Spanish and French ancestry. Ana Cristina showed exceptional talent at a very young age. She debuted in a local TV show, Sábado Gigante at the age of 6 and taped shows regularly on the international hit show until the age of 14.

On January 20, 2005, Ana Cristina became the very first Hispanic person to sing The Star Spangled Banner at a Presidential Inauguration.[1] The following year, on October 6, she performed three songs in a private show at the White House in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Ana Cristina Alvarez known artistically as "ANA CRISTINA" is a Cuban-American singer who was born in Miami on June 2, 1985.She is known for her bluesy contralto vocals and rare "Whistle Register" in the vein of Mariah Carey,Minnie Riperton, and Betty Wright's high notes. She has a 5-octave range and writes songs in the Pop/Dance genre, infusing her Bluesy vocal riffs and Latin musical influences.... At the age of 19, she became the first Hispanic woman in history to perform the "Star Spangled Banner" at a Presidential Inauguration in 2005 and was until recently the Miss South Florida USA 2011 title holder. Ana most notably gave a performance in 2006 at the White House in honor of Hispanic Heritage month serenading the President of the United States, the Crowned Prince of Spain and notable World Ambassadors in the East Room with her potent voice. She is a very prominent member of the Cuban-American and Latin community. Her charisma and incredible passion for life is what defines her personality.

From the age of 6 to about 13, Ana appeared on the popular Spanish television variety show,"Sabado Gigante" competing in the kids talent competitions and musical skits. At age 14, she was featured on Univision's "El Show De Cristina" young rising future stars segment. At the age of 15, Ana Cristina's large vocal talents and charisma caught the attention of an A&R executive at the Latin division of Sony in the year 2000. One of her demo tapes got into his hands via a co-worker of her sisters, and the company was blown away by her vocal maturity and professionalism in the recording studio at such a young age. They signed her immediately that same year to record in the Spanish language at the age of 15. She worked with some of the best Grammy winning producers in Latin Music including Rudy Perez,Emilio Estefan ,Kike Santander and Estefano amongst others. Her first single off of her self-titled debut was called “A Un Paso De Mi Amor , a power ballad that truly shows off her impressive vocal range. Ana focused on finishing her High School studies at Gulliver Preparatory Highschool in Miami and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Independent Study High School Program. He never stopped performing around nightclubs in Miami and made a name for herself locally by singing at various charity events in South Florida. She has been featured as the cover story of "The Miami Herald" twice, including the time that she became the first Hispanic woman in history to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Presidential Inauguration in 2005. Her performance that year captured the attention of Emilio Estefan, who coordinated for her to sing at the White House in 2006 during Hispanic Heritage Week for the President of the United States. Ana Cristina dances, plays the guitar , piano and writes music in both English and Spanish. She normally performs in the style of Pop/Dance. ~~**Family History and Early Beginnings**75.84.221.128 (talk) Ana's grandparents on both her mother and father's side migrated to the United States in the early 1960s in order to find freedom in America and escape Fidel Castro's newly implemented Communist regime. Upon arrival in the United States, one of her grandmother's began work as a wedding dress seamstress in a local mall and the other was a needlepoint operator sewing in a shoe factory. One of her grandfather's,Francisco, was a train conductor in Cuba, but upon his arrival in the US, he did work as a mechanic. Ana Cristina's father, Rene is a a Mechanical Engineer with an Air Conditioning business in Miami and her mother, Teresita is a homemaker.Rene came to the United States at the age of 15 along with Ana's uncle via a CIA implemented program in the early 60's called "Operation Peter Pan"which was designed to transport the children of parents who opposed the revolutionary government, and was later expanded to include children of parents concerned by rumors that their children would be shipped to Soviet work camps in the USSR.Teresita did not leave the country until she was 18 years of age and was forced to work in camps peeling the skin off of potatoes while attending school.

Ana Cristina's two older sisters, Marisa and Aileen ,were also born in Miami.Her love for music began when Her teenage sisters played Madonna , Michael Jackson and Prince songs around the house and make up dances to "Thriller" when she was a toddler. Ana's grandmother,Maria Amelia, discovered her singing along to the Disney film "Sleeping Beauty" in an operatic voice when she was 3 and was the earliest to recognize her love for singing. Ana's current vocal range is considerably large ranging from coloratura soprano to alto. She has a rare vocal "Whistle Register" that singers like Minnie Riperton, Mariah Carey and Betty Wright possess and she has displayed these notes on many of her live shows & recordings including that of her song "A Un Paso De Mi Amor" in Spanish, which was released several years ago by the Latin division of Sony. Her late grandfather,Francisco Vasquez, often tape recorded the 3-year-old singing Spanish nursery rhymes and are the oldest recordings of Ana singing. They are still in her possession and it is her most treasured memory of her beloved late grandfather who passed away from Parkingsons Disease. Ana grew up admiring the voices of big artists such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion and being a large fan of Gloria Estefan and Madonna. Ana Cristina currently resides in Los Angeles and completed a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Florida International University .
