Andratx in the southwest

Andratx (also spelt Andraitx or Andrach) is a municipality on Majorca, one of the Balearic Islands, in Spain. It is located on the southwest tip of the island.

The town of Andratx is ancient and until fairly recently inhabited by local Majorcan people. It has undergone a transformation over the last five years following the input of EU finance which has resulted in a facelift for the town and also brought foreign money.

On 10th October 2009 Stephen Gately, of Boyzone fame died of natural causes in the town, aged just 33. His death was due to pulmonary oedema, also on 11th October 2009 the rest of Boyzone arrived in the town to pay their respect to Gately and to help his family with taking his body back to Dublin, Ireland where Gately origined for his funeral on 17th October 2009.
