[edit] Early life

Rivera was born to a family of six brothers. One day she found out that actress Verónica Castro was filming a video in the street and she decided to snoop around. To her surprise, Castro approached her and suggested that she compete in The Face of the Herald, a contest Rivera won in 1987. This launched her career.

[edit] Success in telenovelas

Rivera's career began at the age of 17, when she won The Face of the Herald contest. She was a model in the video Now You Can Leave with Luis Miguel. She then filmed two TV/radio commercials, one for the United States and other for Japan, followed by the TNT video program hosted by Martha Aguayo.

In 1989, her career completely changed when she received the opportunity to play a small part in the soap opera Dulce Desafío, with Adela Noriega and Eduardo Yáñez. This part was followed by many others on shows such as Simply Maria, My Small Solitude and The Dreamy Scamp. Little by little she was demonstrating her acting ability.

In 1991 Rivera was selected to play the scheming and opportunistic Silvana in Alcanzar una estrella II, where she also sang next to big talents such as Ricky Martin, Pedro Fernández, Sasha and Erick Rubín.

In 2003 she played a villain in the soap opera Mariana de la Noche, produced by Salvador Mejía. In this melodrama she played the character of Marcia.

On November 27, 2010, Rivera married Edomex Governor and 2012 potential presidential candidate for the PRI, Enrique Peña Nieto. From this marriage, she has three stepchildren.
