Animal Planet is a Canadian English language category 2 digital cable specialty channel [1] owned by CTV Speciality Television Inc; a division of CTVglobemedia (80%) and ESPN (20%); and Discovery Communications. Animal Planet features a variety of programming on animals including their relationship with humans, insights into their behaviour and more. [2]

Animal Planet was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in November 2000 [1] and launched on September 7, 2001 as a localized Canadian version of the American channel Animal Planet.[3]

On June 30, 2008 Animal Planet updated its on-air appearance to match the American version.
