Carrington College, formerly known as Apollo College, is a privately held, for-profit institution of higher education in the United States. Carrington College, along with co-operating division Carrington College California, is owned and operated by Carrington Colleges Group, Inc. a subsidiary of DeVry Inc. Carrington College focuses on training students for work in the health care industry. It has ten campuses throughout the western United States, and it also offers online programs.

History[edit]

Margaret M. Carlson founded Apollo College in 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona, in order to prepare graduates for careers in skilled professions. Apollo College grew to ten campuses in Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. It offers associate's degree and certificate programs at each of its campuses, as well as online.

Apollo College was acquired by U.S. Education Corporation in December 2003. In September 2008, U.S. Education Corporation was acquired by DeVry Inc.[1][2]

In 2010, Apollo College changed its name to Carrington College. This was a rebranding intended to better reflect its health care programs and to align it with Western Career College, also owned by DeVry, which was simultaneously rebranded as Carrington College California. DeVry announced the name changes in March 2010; they took effect on June 30, 2010.[3][4]

The enrollment of new students in the Carrington Colleges declined in 2010 by 19 percent. The total enrollment in the college group also fell, with the number of total students placed at 10,942 in December 2010.[5]
