Applied semantics is the study and application of semantics which have many uses, e.g. advertising, text analysis, web traffic of search engines, web page rankings, and the indexation of words.

Applied Semantics is also the name of a company that produces software applications for the online advertising, domain name, and enterprise information management markets.

Applied Semantics was acquired by Google in April 2003 for $102M.[citation needed]
