Area code 315

Area code 315 is a telephone area code in upstate New York. It stretches from the eastern border of Monroe County to Little Falls, north to the Canadian border, east to Massena and south to near Cortland.
New York State regulators announced that area code 315 was initially projected to become "exhausted" during the third quarter of 2010. The New York State Public Service Commission is weighing options including: an overlay area code, or a split into two area codes. Future border splits may include a north/south arrangement that would split Oswego County and parts north to a separate area code from Syracuse, or a split of east/west that would split Oswego, Onondaga, and western counties from those to the east of them. Regulators met to discuss how best to create an additional area code in the 315 area code region, but because of economic conditions, assignable numbers will not run out in the third quarter of 2010 as predicted. The predicted year has now been extended until the first quarter of 2013.[1]
