Area code 315

Area code 315 is a telephone area code in upstate New York. It stretches from west of Syracuse to Little Falls, north to the Canadian border, east to Massena and south to near Cortland.
New York State regulators announced that area code 315 is projected to become "exhausted" during the third quarter of 2010. The New York State Public Service Commission is weighing options to be implemented in the later part of 2008, including: an overlay area code, or a split into two area codes. Future border splits may include a north/south arrangement that would split Oswego County and parts north to a separate area code from Syracuse, or a split of east/west that would split Oswego, Onondaga, and western counties from those to the east of them. Regulators met to discuss how best to create an additional area code in the 315 area code region, however due to economic conditions have determined that the original date that they believed assignable numbers would run out (third quarter of 2010) was no longer accurate, so the exhaust date has now been extended until the first quarter of 2013.[1]
