Area code 513
The area code 513 serves southwest Ohio including Cincinnati and its many suburbs, such as the cities of Forest Park, Hamilton, Lebanon, Mason, Middletown, Norwood, Oxford, [Harrison, Ohio|Harrison], [Cleves, Ohio|Cleves], [Miamitown, Ohio|Miamitown] and Trenton; it is one of the original area codes established in 1947. It formerly covered a almost the entire Southwestern Ohio quadrant, which has since been split into area code 937. Area code 937 now covers from parts of Middletown, OH, through north of Dayton. Parts of Area Code 513 are long distance from Cincinnati depending on the prefix (for example calling Mason from Harrison although for some reason not vice versa). Area code 513 also has a large number of numbers belonging to people living in southeastern Indiana and Northern Kentucky due to the usage of cell phones.
A new area code 283 has been assigned to overlay the current 513 area, but this has been delayed as the 513 area code has not yet been depleted of available numbers.[1]
Prior to covering Cincinnati, Ohio; this Area Code was designated to cover Western Iowa (Considered West of Des Moines). Cities designated for coverage included both Sioux City and Council Bluffs.[2]
