Area code 803

Area code 803 is a South Carolina area code. Located in the central part of the state, it is anchored by metropolitan Columbia, the state capital. It is one of the original 86 North American Numbering Plan areas assigned in 1947. Until 1995 it was South Carolina's only area code.[1] In 1995, the western portion was split off as area code 864. In 1998, the Lowcountry became area code 843.
