[edit] Geography

The valley

Aregno is a small district on Balagna's coastline with an area of 930 hectares.

[edit] Landscape

From west to east, the commune extends between Algajola, Lavatoggio, Cateri, Sant'Antonino, Pigna, and Corbara; almost all of these communes are built like balconies on most of the coastline and hillsides. Its highest point (326 meters above sealevel) is near the junction of routes D151 and D413.

Between the sea and the village, the Aregno plain is crossed by the Teghiella stream, which joins the Pozzi stream, and the Migliani stream later on. It flows into the sea at the east end of Aregno beach, on the limits of Calcinaiu Natural Site.

Aregno has a narrow sea front, mostly sandy beach, which extends between Corbara and Algajola.

[edit] Highlights

The community has the following highlights:

  • Aregno Village, which is old, traditional, and dominated by the remarkable Church of the Trinity, which is situated about forty meters higher. It's from the 11th century and in the graveyard.
  • Praoli, a hamlet situated directly north of the village with a small chapel of Saint Michael.
  • Torre, to the north of the village, also with a chapel
  • Aregno Beach, between algajola, today a resort, and the artisanal area of Corbara. It was developed for tourism by the construction of vacation homes, businesses, and hotels. On Route D551, linking the village to RN 197 on Aregno Beach, one can find the Annunziata Chapel.
